Parochial Church Council Notes
The PCC met on Wednesday 19th March with a full agenda. The key decision was to approve the accounts for the year 2024 in preparation for the Annual Parochial Church Council. The other key decisions were:
Approved a policy for the admission of children and young people to Holy Communion.
The Mission Action Plan was approved and will be published next week.
Commencement of application for a faculty for the replacement of windows was approved
Discussion about use of the memorial garden was had.
The Safeguarding dashboard was reviewed which shows good progress.
We are now preparing for the Annual Parochial Church Council which follows the 10.00am service on Sunday 6th April
Church Window Replacement
There is now information at the back of church regarding the replacement of the church windows.
We need to replace all the windows (except the stained glass ones) for several reasons. The two main reasons are:
- Safety. There is a real risk of the current windows breaking and causing damage or injury.
- Heat. New windows will provide much better insulation as we move towards ‘net zero’.
The total cost is going to be between £75,000 and £85,000 depending on the VAT status of the work.
The PCC have agreed that the work should be funded from reserves, grants and the church community.
Please look at the display and look at the the website:
Following our meeting of the PCC on 19th March, we are reviewing how people are able to donate to the windows fund. This will be clarified and a method for donating that will acknowledge the doner will be published in next weeks News Letter.
Lent Reflections
Following the success of last years joint Lent reflections with St Paul and St Peters, we have put together another joint series of reflections based on reconciliation. These will be on Thursday evenings and so Bible Study will be postponed during Lent. The series will be concluded with a joint Eucharist at St Paul's Whitley Bay on Saturday 12th April at midday with lunch.

Children's Society Boxes
Traditionally lent has been the time to hand the boxes in for counting..if you could hand them in to the office before Easter that would be great. Many thanks for your continued support Rick and Sue Channing
Sermon from Sunday 9th March; Lent 2
Due to sound issues Margaret Evan's sermons was disrupted and so is attached for you to readd. It is an excellent sermon that we would urge you to read.
Parish Walk
The next parish walk will be 10.30am on Saturday 22nd March. We are meeting for a walk on the carpark at Rising Sun Country Park, Whitely Road, Benton, NE12 9SS. If you need a lift then please speak to Nigel or Claire. We will be walking and watching for signs of spring. If you have binoculars it is worth brining them.
Sophie
I’m so pleased to be able to share with you that Sophie has successfully battled through two potentially life threatening illnesses. She has a clean bill of health and thanks you for your prayers over the last months.
Beetle Drive
A big thank you from Rachel for all your support and contributions for her fundraising for MIND. It was a very enjoyable evening. She was amazed to raise £600. Many thanks Sue
Gardens
As ever thank you to the small, but perfectly formed team who contribute to keeping the gardens looking as good as they do.
Spring appears to be springing and the grass is growing….if you could spare a couple of hours once a month to help with the grass cutting I would be very grateful. If you would like to look after part of the gardens then let me know.
Please come and see me after the service or contact me through 07969714308 or cheryl22savage@gmail.com.
Eco Church, Change to an upcoming event.
The showing of the environmental documentary, 2040, scheduled for Saturday 29thMarch is cancelled for that date and will now be shown after Easter. Unfortunately, the 29th now clashes with a historic, Newcastle event, which has led to the change. A new date will be advertised as soon as arranged.
The plan is still for a Saturday morning, followed by a soup lunch and the opportunity to chat about environmental issues. 2040, is a very informative, uplifting watch. Hope to see you there and apologies for the change.
