Spring Forward...

Don't forget - the clocks go forwards one hour this Sunday, for the start of British Summer Time.

Church Window Replacement

There is now information at the back of church regarding the replacement of the church windows.

We need to replace all the windows (except the stained glass ones) for several reasons. The two main reasons are:

- Safety. There is a real risk of the current windows breaking and causing damage or injury.

- Heat. New windows will provide much better insulation as we move towards ‘net zero’.

The total cost is going to be between £75,000 and £85,000 depending on the VAT status of the work.

The PCC have agreed that the work should be funded from reserves, grants and the church community.

Please look at the display and the website:

Following our meeting of the PCC on 19th March, we are reviewing how people are able to donate to the windows fund. If you would like your donation to be recorded, then please pay by cheque, payable to "The Parochial Church St Marys Concerts".

Lent Reflections

Following the success of last years joint Lent reflections with St Paul's and St Peter's, we have put together another joint series of reflections based on reconciliation. These will be on Thursday evenings and so Bible Study will be postponed during Lent. The series will be concluded with a joint Eucharist at St Paul's Whitley Bay on Saturday 12th April at midday with lunch.

OWLS MEETING Friday 11th April at 12 noon

At our April meeting we will be choosing and rehearsing readings for the Stations of the Cross service on Good Friday. Also we will start to plan our outing for July.

I’m hoping that enough OWLS will volunteer to read at the Good Friday service I only need 5 more for this, so please help if you can. You will be reading from your place where you sit with a hand held microphone so no need to worry about getting to an Ambo! I’m hoping this will help others to see that we can still contribute to church life even as we age….

Please sign up by Sunday 6th April so that I can order food for the meeting.

I look forward to seeing you all for a busy and thoughtful meeting.

Maundy Thursday

The last two years we have had a meal prior to the Maundy Thursday evening Eucharist. It is our intention to do so again this year, so are looking for volunteers to cook and serve. If you can help, please speak to Nigel or Claire.

Following the Eucharist there will be a Watch from 9pm to midnight. We need a minimum of two people in church at any one time and there is a list in the lobby for volunteers to sign up to be stewards.

APCM

The APCM will be held at 11.15am, following our 10am service next Sunday, 6th April.

We will be electing churchwardens and PCC members for which there are nomination forms in the lobby. Please ask people before nominating them! If you would like to know more about the roles then please speak to a churchwarden or Nigel or Claire.

Gardens

As ever thank you to the small, but perfectly formed team who contribute to keeping the gardens looking as good as they do.

Spring appears to be springing and the grass is growing….if you could spare a couple of hours once a month to help with the grass cutting I would be very grateful. If you would like to look after part of the gardens then let me know.

Please come and see me after the service or contact me through 07969714308 or cheryl22savage@gmail.com.

Eco Church - Dates for the Diary.

The environmental documentary 2040, which has been cancelled for this Saturday, will now be shown after Easter, on Saturday 3rd May @ 10am. Please sign up and join us for a soup lunch and chat about environmental issues, following the showing. The documentary is uplifting, informative, and reassuring that changes can be made.

June 3rd is World Bicycle day, and we are planning an environmentally friendly ride along the new cycle path to Tynemouth. Hopefully, it will be a pleasant summers evening. Details to follow.
